Archadia

Archadia is a specialist, friendly and reliable chartered architectural practice based in South West London with a team of BIM trained architects, technologists and assistants capable of delivering a personal and professional service.  We aim to be responsive, efficient and progressive with an emphasis on providing high quality buildings that meet our clients’ brief in terms of budget, building function and timescales. Sustainable design is a priority and care is taken in design to give due regard to energy efficiency and the use of renewable materials.

Established over 20 years ago, Archadia has extensive experience in housing, health and special needs, education and public buildings.  Our expertise lies in providing specialist housing for older people and people with disabilities. Many of our clients are large housing associations and several of our specialist housing projects have won awards. We also offer an architectural service for one-off new build and large extension projects and our recent association with West Waddy-ADP has enabled us to additionally offer planning and urban design services and Passivhaus expertise to our clients.

Jean Hanna BSC BARCH RIBA
Director

Jean has over 30 years’ experience in delivering projects for new build and remodelled extra care and sheltered housing schemes ranging in contract value from £3m to £10m and on a range of urban/rural sites including work in conservation areas and sites including Listed Buildings. Jean has also been Client Design Adviser for a central London council.

Jean has over 30 years’ experience in delivering projects for new build and remodelled extra care and sheltered housing schemes ranging in contract value from £3m to £10m and on a range of urban/rural sites including work in conservation areas and sites including Listed Buildings. Jean has also been Client Design Adviser for a central London council.

Her designs, particularly housing for older persons have been well received, and some of her projects have won local and European awards. Her design scheme for Patching Lodge in Brighton was used in the HAPPI Report, a government publication outlining innovative housing examples from across Europe making recommendations to government, developers and housing developers.

Jean continues to broaden her knowledge and expertise in her specialist fields by being an active member of WISH (Women in Social Housing) and Housing LIN.

Mark Slater BSc MArch RIBA
Director

Mark joined Archadia in 2009 where he completed his professional training. On qualifying as an Architect in 2014 he was promoted to Associate within the company.

Mark joined Archadia in 2009 where he completed his professional training. On qualifying as an Architect in 2014 he was promoted to Associate within the company.

Mark has worked on many projects including extra care housing schemes in London and Harpenden, a retirement housing scheme and affordable housing scheme in Surrey, and planning drawings for a hydrotherapy pool and gym for a special needs school. He has also worked on several domestic projects and assisted with feasibility drawings for a sports facility for disabled athletes. Mark was also responsible for the design and planning drawings for a competition winning regeneration scheme in Stevenage and has recently added BIM to his skillset by completing training in the use of Revit software.

Patrick Manwell BA DipArch RIBA
Consultant

Patrick trained at Bristol University and then at Polytechnic of Central London where he qualified in 1979. His interest and experience in housing for older persons and family housing developed whilst he was at PRP in the 1980’s.

Patrick trained at Bristol University and then at Polytechnic of Central London where he qualified in 1979. His interest and experience in housing for older persons and family housing developed whilst he was at PRP in the 1980’s.

In 1993 Patrick founded Archadia and further developed his expertise in the field of social housing, as well as building the practice and generating work in the education, health, commercial, private housing and community sectors.

Patrick continues to develop his interest in housing for older people and has become an authority in this field. He has been involved in research projects with the CAE and Building Research Establishment and is currently acting as Client Design Advisor on older persons’ accommodation for a Local Authority.   He is both an active member of Housing LIN and a panel member of the Almshouse Association.

Sophie Morley BA DipArch RIBA, MA DEP
Associate Architect

Sophie worked for Archadia during 2007 and 2008 as an Architectural Assistant and then re-joined in October 2014 as a fully qualified Architect.

Sophie worked for Archadia during 2007 and 2008 as an Architectural Assistant and then re-joined in October 2014 as a fully qualified Architect. Projects have included assistance with working drawings for a 76-flat extra care scheme in Brighton and for a mixed use scheme of flats and branch library in Coldean, remodelling and extension to a care home in Sussex to provide a dementia unit and a sheltered housing scheme for older people in London. In recognition of her drive to push the practice forward and marketing skills, Sophie has recently been promoted to Associate.

Prior to returning to Archadia Sophie gained two years’ valuable experience at Adjaye Associates where she worked on renovation and regeneration proposals in Johannesburg. Sophie is also a volunteer for ASK-UK where she has been involved with a variety of projects including co-running the Local vs Global workshop in Ghana 2011. As well as her role at Archadia, Sophie is also currently a part-time lecturer at De Montford University teaching undergraduate architecture. Sophie has developed an approach to the built environment that puts people first and looks at the many dimensions of sustainability.
